DALLAS, TX -- When Greg Coon Set out to make
a website for his company, Eyecon Video Productions, he wanted
more than an electronic price list. What he's created at www.eyeconvideo.com
is a useful tool for professional broadcasters, amateurs,
and potential clients.
Sure, his website has the obligatory staff photo,
as well as awards, press clippings, equipment lists, and production
shots. After all, Eyecon is a business. The Dallas-based company
provides professional-level video and editing services, and
Coon, who owns Eyecon, has been a freelance for CNN's Dallas
bureau for more than seven years.
| But beyond tooting his own horn,
Coon has compiled a list of tips and an extensive glossary
of terms to help his fellow broadcasters. "We are
competitors," said Coon, "but in reality we
need each other." The production tips are categorized
into separate sections on audio, lighting, editing, shooting,
location shoots, and running a video business.
Another section provides helpful hints
to potential clients who may not know much about the
video production industry. Coon said he really wanted
to include a section for clients because everyone has
dealt with the problem of finding and hiring a video
production company, as well as video direct marketing
and the value of video.
"These are not tips of mine,"
Coon admitted. He has compiled the site's information
from a variety of sources, and he gives credit to all
contributors. Some credits even include an email address
or link to the author's own website. So far, everyone
has been very cooperative, Coon says. |

Since its debut in early January, Coon said
the response to his site has been unbelievable, with about
5,000 hits, and he has received words of praise from industry
professionals. "I'm hoping to put something out there
that helps everybody," he said.
