Because of the high costs of professional video
equipment, most video production companies are either owned
by large corporate conglomerates or by investors.
Eyecon Video Productions has been able to grow
right at 100% annually for the past three years without the
help of any conglomerates, investors or partners. All of this
accomplished by the young, sole-proprietor, 31-year-old owner
of Eyecon Video Productions, Greg Coon of Carrollton.
| Coon has been competing with other
video production companies that have the backing of multi-million
dollars corporations. Many times,
an insurance company, for example, will have the need
to incorporate an in-house video facility. This video
department will be able to produce all the company's
in-house videos. They have the resources that allow
them to quickly purchase the very expensive video equipment
needed for their facility. To add to the company's bottom
line, the video department will also produce videos
for outside entities fronting as an independent production
facility.
With careful planning and research when
buying equipment, Eyecon Video Productions has been
able to handle the growth all while giving the customer
the service and professional quality videos they demand.
One of the main reasons this has been
possible is because of computer technology. The cost
of digital technology has made this growth easier than
it would have just 5 years ago.
The quality of digital video is now at
the broadcast level. That, along with the cost of digital
editing has fallen has allowed more companies to get
into the video business. |

The main thing that keeps Eyecon Video apart
from the rest is the attention to customer service. Eyecon
Video is set up to be able to handle customer requests with
short notice. Although Eyecon is a sole-proprietorship and
run by Greg Coon, he has a list of contractors that regularly
provide services on an as need basis. By not having a staff
of full-time employees, the service to the customer is enhanced
as well as the ability to charge significantly less than most
other video production companies.
Eyecon's client list already includes American
Airlines, Caltex Petroleum Corporation, CNN (Cable News Network),
Starplex Amphitheater, KISS-FM radio station in Dallas, Koch
Industries, AmeriPlan, and QuickCARE.
"The key," according to Greg Coon,
"is to treat your customers as you would like to be treated
yourself." He says to be nice, respectful, and give the
customer more than they expect.
Eyecon Video Productions is a full service professional
video production company that can help guide a client from
concept and scriptwriting to shooting, editing and distribution.
They are very budget minded and can work within the parameters
given by clients. In addition, they personally can be hired
by a half day or full day rate with full ENG/EFP Betacam SP
gear. Their on-line, non-linear digital edit system, the Media
100, can be rented with an operator at $115 an hour.

Every year, AV Video and Multimedia Magazine
selects the Top 100 Audio/Visual Producers in the nation.
This year, Greg Coon, owner of Eyecon Video Productions from
Dallas was given the huge honor of being chosen as one of
these 100.
"The Top 100 was launched as a way to recognize
and honor those producers whose notable achievements have
made their colleagues stand up and take notice. Selected from
hundreds of nominations, these talented, hardworking and creative
individuals come from many different walks of life, but share
one thing - a never ending quest for excellence and a tremendous
passion for their work. It is the dedication of producers
like these that has shaped and grown this industry, making
it the exciting work place it is today," said AV Video
Magazine in their November 1998 issue.

"To
be selected to stand with the best of the best is an incredible
honor", said Greg Coon. Eyecon's owner also describes
why he thinks he was chosen: " I think it was mostly
because of the way we've grown our business, how we've
been able to maintain a satisfied client base, and our
work with charity. This honor, along with winning nine
national awards for our videos has made the last year
or so a great time for us." Because
of the high costs of professional video equipment, most
video production companies are either owned by large
corporate conglomerates or by investors. Eyecon Video
Productions on Greenville Avenue has been able to maintain
solid growth without the help of any conglomerates,
investors or partners due to the persistence of its
sole-proprietor, 32-year-old Greg Coon. |
Coon has been competing with other video production
companies that have the backing of multi-million dollars corporations.
